The students of South Plainfield, NJ High School's Passionately Pink for Breast Cancer club are focused, driven and undaunted by hard work! Last fall, despite a raging pandemic, they methodically set about organizing and collecting donations that ultimately yielded a check for $995 dollars plus online donations totaling $1,060 that was presented to Dance for the Cure. The funds go directly to help local women in need who are battling breast cancer.

Members of the club gave us an inside look into how they did it!

  • Donation Collections Every Friday - We started by collecting donations from our in person staff at the school every Friday in October and November. Normally we go to all the homerooms and collect from both students and staff, however, because our students were not in school, we could only collect from staff.

  • Pumpkin Decorating Kits - The Passionately Pink Club had bought large paint bottles, containers, brushes, and pumpkins to put together mini decorating kits for our community. Each kit was $15.00 and came with 6 different- I oz paint containers, 2 brushes, and of course a pumpkin.

  • Apparel Sale - Our two presidents, Gabrielle Petrillo and Jennifer Guy, came up with two design ideas for this apparel line. Passionately Pink then partnered with a local printing company in town, Supreme Silk Screen, to make long and short sleeve t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, masks, and sweatpants (see flyer below for catalog). With every item sold, Passionately Pink received a $5.00 donation. This apparel sale ran from the end of November to the end of December.

"We would like to thank you for allowing us the opportunity to work with you and we hope to continue our efforts with you next school year. We truly applaud the hard work and dedication you have shown in the fight against breast cancer."

Thank you Passionately Pink Club!
