Small Prices, Big Heart… DFC’s Garage Sale Raises $857

Longtime DFC volunteer Tara Baldwin brought bargain hunters together on October 10 for DFC’s annual garage sale at her mom and fellow volunteer Debbie Melick’s home in Hillsborough, NJ. Held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the sale raised $857 to support local breast cancer patients facing financial hardship. Beautiful fall weather and a steady stream of shoppers, including many returning customers, helped make the day a success, with most items selling for under a dollar.
The sale began with Tara’s idea in 2022. While planning a garage sale with a friend, she spotted items at Basket Central that could find buyers and raise a few extra dollars for DFC. That first effort brought in less than $100. Tara and Debbie have organized and run the sale together every year since, helping it grow through donations from friends and family and a continued supply of items from Basket Central.
Fellow DFC volunteer Janet Sabatura helps bring it all together, with Tara’s father lending a hand, too. Friends and family also pitched in with setup, sale-day tasks, and cleanup. Thanks go to Chris Melick, Kathy and Bob Lysyj, Bob and Sandy Glen, Brittany Glen, Nicole Glen, Anna Mae Grenfell, and Dave Donahue for their help. Later that evening, Tara’s husband, Gary Baldwin, delivered all the remaining items to Goodwill.
Our thanks to Tara, Debbie, and Janet for their dedication, and to everyone who donated, shopped, and lent a hand. Those bargain finds will help DFC provide meaningful assistance to people in our community.
