A Peek Inside Basket Central

On September 10, Dance for the Cure opened the doors of Basket Central in Somerville and invited visitors to see what goes on behind the scenes. With baskets taking shape, bows being made, and music filling the room, there was plenty to explore.

Our co-founders and volunteers guided guests around the facility, answered questions, and introduced DFC’s four signature initiatives: Ribbons of Hope, our annual fundraiser; Tie the Town Pink; the Pink Bow Project; and the Pink Ribbon Tribute. Visitors learned how they could get involved and help DFC provide financial assistance to local breast cancer patients.

The Basket Genies continued working on their creations throughout the morning, giving guests a chance to watch the process and chat with the volunteers who bring the raffle baskets to life. A demonstration showed how the Pink Bow Project’s bows are made, offering a closer look at the handiwork behind a familiar October sight.

Guests enjoyed delicious refreshments while mingling with the team. Adding something special to the morning was musician Efrat Shapira, whose violin and voice accompanied the activity. A breast cancer survivor herself, Efrat shared her talents as a way to give back. We were delighted to have her with us.

Several visitors signed up to volunteer in different ways—a lovely outcome for a morning devoted to making connections and sharing our work.

Thank you to everyone who helped put the open house together and to those who came to get to know us. We look forward to welcoming our new volunteers to DFC!
