Dance for the Cure Makes a Splash at Paddle for Pink

It was our first time at this awesome event, and we were super excited to set up our bright pink DFC tent in the Breast Cancer “Village.” The new tent looked amazing and grabbed a lot of attention. People kept stopping by to chat with us and learn about what we do and our new efforts in Mercer County.

Setting up the tent was a bit of a comedy show, but we eventually got it right. With ten amazing DFC volunteers on hand, our booth was buzzing all day. We had great conversations with visitors about our work and how we help local breast cancer patients. It was fantastic to see so much interest and support.

Our co-founder, Kathleen Cirioli, was our fearless leader for the day. She even suggested that next year, we should get a team together to paddle in the races, not just hang out at the booth. Now that’s something to look forward to!

The weather was perfect, making the boat races even more fun to watch. Teams included many breast cancer survivors along with their families, friends, and supporters. One of the most touching parts of the day was when paddlers took their boats out to the lake to toss flowers in memory of teammates who had passed away since last year. It was a beautiful and emotional moment.

The festival had everything – live music, yummy food from food trucks, and ice cream. The vibe was great, and we loved being part of it. Our booth stayed busy with lots of people stopping by to find out more about DFC. Many signed up for our newsletter, and some even donated on the spot, which was amazing.

Huge thanks to our fantastic volunteers: Carole Longo, Nicole and Linda LaGravenese, Joanne Liscovitz, Peggy Whelan, Julia and Rosa Sauers, and especially Kathleen Cirioli, Brooke Herbst, and Lynn Grillo who worked the booth all day. Also, a shoutout to Bob Cibulskis and Joe Grillo for helping with set-up and break-down. You all rock!

Being at Paddle for Pink was such a great experience for us. It showed just how much our community cares about breast cancer awareness and support. We can’t wait to come back next year and make an even bigger splash.
