A Labor of Love (and Tulle!)

When Dance for the Cure co-founder Joanne Liscovitz asked volunteer Lory Hughes if she’d be up for creating new centerpieces for this year’s Ribbons of Hope, Lory didn’t hesitate. “I’ve always wanted to see what it felt like to be in cotton candy,” she said with a laugh. And from that playful idea, a project was born.

Starting in April and working steadily through July, Lory turned her cozy sewing space, affectionately known as “Ma’s Workshop”, into a tutu-making headquarters. With a sewing machine, a whole lot of pink tulle, and a good dose of determination, she crafted a beautiful set of tutu centerpieces that will take center stage at our October fundraiser.

“It was something I felt I could contribute,” she said. And contribute she did. Every tutu reflects the care and commitment our volunteers put into making Ribbons of Hope the incredible fundraising event it has become.

Dance for the Cure is powered entirely by volunteers like Lory, whose talents and time make a real difference for local breast cancer patients in financial need. The new centerpieces are an eye-catching reminder of the community spirit that makes Ribbons of Hope such a meaningful night.

Lory, thank you for pouring your love into every stitch. We can’t wait for everyone to see your work come to life this October.
