Sharline Leslie, In Her Own Words

My name is Sharline Leslie and like so many others, my life changed the moment I heard the words “you have breast cancer.” In an instant, everything felt uncertain—my health, my future, and how I would continue to show up for my family during such a frightening time.
As a mother, I’ve always been used to being the strong one, the caretaker, the person holding everything together. But cancer has a way of humbling you. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed, scared, and emotionally exhausted, trying to navigate treatments, appointments, and the weight of the unknown while still being present for my children and managing daily life.
During one of the hardest chapters of my journey, Dance for the Cure stepped in and helped me when I truly felt like I was drowning. Their financial support in 2024 lifted a burden I didn’t even realize how heavy it had become. It wasn’t just about the assistance—it was about being seen, supported, and reminded that I didn’t have to face this alone.
That act of kindness gave me breathing room at a time when everything felt suffocating. It allowed me to focus on healing, on putting one foot in front of the other, and on finding strength I didn’t know I still had.
Today, I am continuing my recovery with gratitude, resilience, and hope. I carry this experience with me as a reminder of how powerful compassion can be, especially when it comes from an organization that truly understands what patients are facing beyond the medical side of cancer.
I am deeply thankful to Dance for the Cure and speaking with Kathleen—not only for the help they provided, but for the humanity behind it. Their generosity made a lasting impact on my life, and I hope that by sharing my story, others will feel less alone and more supported on their own journeys.
