Tie the Town Pink 2025

Each October, Dance for the Cure brings breast cancer awareness to the center of our communities. Through Tie the Town Pink, township partners place beautiful pink ribbons across municipal properties, wrapped around trees and along railings, so residents see a visible reminder of care and support the moment they enter the grounds. This year, the effort reached farther than ever with 54 towns participating.

A ribbon on public grounds begins conversations. Neighbors ask who’s behind it, and they learn about Dance for the Cure’s mission: direct financial assistance for local breast cancer patients in Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, and Somerset counties. Because our organization is 100% volunteer-run, funds raised go where they’re needed most, to help with rent or mortgage payments, utilities, groceries, transportation to treatment, and other immediate needs. With community awareness growing each fall, more families find their way to us, and more donors join in.

Each participating town receives one of our signature pink supply boxes filled with our branded pink ribbons and clear instructions for putting them up. New this year, we also tucked in homemade cookies, a small thank you for the municipal crews and volunteers who take time to decorate their grounds. (Check out the sweet backstory here: Baked with Heart.)

“Since 2016, we have been Tying the Town Pink and this year with over 54 towns participating, the message of the Dance for the Cure mission is spread even further. I’m very grateful for all the volunteers and the municipal workers who choose to make this a priority to kick off the month of October,” shares DFC Co-founder, Joanne Liscovitz.

Public spaces touch everyone. When a town turns pink, the message reaches people who may not follow our social channels or attend events. That visibility may translate into referrals or donations that lead a family to relief during treatment. The ribbons also serve as a reminder to women to schedule their mammograms, so important for early detection.

Since our founding, community support has helped us gift over $1.3 million to neighbors facing a breast cancer diagnosis and Tie the Town Pink continues to be a dependable door-opener to that help. To every township partner and municipal worker who lent a hand, thank you for making your public spaces a show of support this October during Breast Cancer Awareness month.
