Pink Bow Project 2025

All October long, storefronts across Hillsborough, Flemington, Martinsville, Raritan, and Somerville will be dressed in bright pink bows with a meaningful purpose. Dance for the Cure’s Pink Bow Project brings volunteers and local businesses together to spotlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to share our mission: providing financial assistance to local breast cancer patients.

The Pink Bow Project is a community effort by Dance for the Cure volunteers who hand-make large pink bows and place them on business doors to be displayed throughout October. Each bow is welcoming and easy to recognize, and it points neighbors toward help that’s available close to home.

Look for bows on entrances around Hillsborough, Flemington, Martinsville, Raritan, and Somerville. As more doors are decorated with giant pink bows, awareness grows, and so does the reach of our assistance.

When people see the bows, they learn that Dance for the Cure is 100% volunteer-run and that supporters have helped us gift over $1.3 million to breast cancer patients who need financial assistance during treatment. The bows start conversations that lead to real relief for families right here in our communities.

As Co-founder Kathleen Cirioli shares, “The positive response and conversations that occur from the many businesses where we place the large pink bows are heartwarming as we continue to grow recognition in the communities that we serve. Some offer to donate to Dance for the Cure as they relay a personal story of someone they know who has been affected with breast cancer or a relative of theirs who had previously received financial assistance from DFC.”

For many volunteers, the project is personal and deeply rewarding. “I have been doing the Pink Bow Project for the past 6 years,” says volunteer Stephanie Mardekian. “I do it because I enjoy being a part of Dance for the Cure and knowing that I am helping them spread the word about breast cancer awareness and resources available. My favorite part of distributing the bows is meeting the owners of the new businesses that pop up every year!”

To our many volunteers who craft and deliver the bows, to the business owners who welcome them, and to the donors who keep this mission moving, thank you. Your support turns a pink bow into actual help for neighbors facing breast cancer.
